Chloe's Musings

Chloe Melin was born May 7, 2006 at 11:58 pm at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon. She weighed nine pounds, two ounces and was 21 inches long. Her parents are Ryan and Laura, and she has a big brother named Caleb (although at the rate she is growing, he won't be much bigger for long!)

Family Camping at Camp Oshkidee

For our family dress-alike meal, we went as whitetail deer, two bunnies, and (gasp) a hunter!

A happy family at Oshkidee.

Enjoying sailing on the windrider with Daddy (and Mommy).

On the beach and learning to like it.

At Cypress Hills

Going for a ride on Grandma and Grandpa Melin's new motorboat. (The first time, I fell asleep right away, soothed be the roar of the motor and the rough bouncing over the waves!)

As Time Goes By

It is shocking! Appalling! Horrendous! I can hardly believe it myself. It has been (gasp!) almost four months since I last posted anything. Nary a thought, a word or even a picture since before Christmas! And here I am, eleven months old, with seven teeth, an extensive vocabulary (daddy, ba-buh - which means bear, gee goo goo, ah ga ga, go, ha-whoa, buh buh - which means Caleb, num, mama - which doesn't mean anything, wah wah, bababoo, gaba, yee gee gee), crawling all over the place, standing up as often and for as long as I find opportunity, waving bye-bye, and practically walking (well, really, I can only walk when someone holds my hand(s) to help me balance). Today, I even stood without hanging on to anything for about four or five seconds before flopping down to my bum! My grandparents think I'll soon be walking, but Mommy and Daddy aren't so sure. Really, I get around just fine on all fours, and although I'm not as fast as Caleb, I eventually catch up and try to take over whatever he is doing. (Don't worry, he usually returns the favor by taking toys from me or pushing/kicking me, and then all I have to do is scream, and Mommy comes running and asks Caleb what just happened. So far, he pretty much tells her the truth, and then gets in trouble, and then we start all over again.)

Screaming is definitely one of my favorite ways to communicate, but I can also sign "more" to get more food, and I clap enthusiastically with a big smile whenever someone says, "Yay!"

Eating is a favorite pasttime, and this I do often, in great quantity, and mostly independently. Some of my favorite foods are squished green peas, blueberries, and broccoli.

I also like jumping on my bed; wrestling my big bear that Uncle Tavis gave me; putting all of Caleb's small toys, especially the matchbox cars, into my mouth; turning the television on and off, especially when Caleb is trying to watch it; trying to tear Caleb's artwork posters off the wall; and hanging onto Mommy's pants whenever she's trying to get something done in the kitchen (or elsewhere). Caleb has been teaching me about how to make a mess (he's really an expert), and I'm starting to get the hang of it. The trick is to take out and scatter as many toys as you can, even if you have no intention of playing with them.

As for my future, Mommy thinks I am going to be a basketball star, because when I throw duplo blocks into their container, I really slam-dunk them!

At the rate things are going, I may not get around to blogging again until highschool anyway, so we'll see what I'm up to then.

Until then I remain, faithfully yours,

Chloe

P.S. I make a great "kissy" noise, but don't give any kisses... yet.

Every now and then, Mom puts my hair up in pigtails. They don't stay in for very long; I really don't have a lot of hair yet. But I put up with it, because it seems to amuse everyone else so much.

Enjoying the spring sunshine and getting a little push from behind.

Just hangin' out.

All dressed up to go and sleep through church!

Ta daa!!!

One of my new fun things to do - pushing chairs around.

Yes, I actually fell asleep like this: sitting, with my face down on the bed between my legs! (Nice of Mommy to take a picture before repositioning me!)

Fun on the sled!
